Maya Hakvoort
Born in the Netherlands, Maya Hakvoort studied classical singing at the conservatory in Maastricht and musical theatre and drama in Amsterdam. She began her stage career in 1989, appearing in “Chicago” in Belgium and the Netherlands. This was followed by numerous roles in international productions including “Les Misérables”, as “Isabella” in the world premiere of “Gaudi” in Aachen, Germany, and as “Catharine” in the musical of the same name.
In 1994, she achieved her professional breakthrough in Austria playing to enthusiastic audiences in her role as “Elisabeth”. She performed in the role of the empress of hearts in the musical “Elisabeth” over 1,000 times, including in Japan and Trieste. She also took the lead role in “Blood Brothers”, “Aspects Of Love”, “The Three Musketeers”, “Jekyll &Hyde”, “Evita”, “High Society”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “Victor/Victoria”, “Rebecca”, “Love Never Dies”, “Sunset Boulevard”, “Cats” and “Next To Normal” as well as in “Don Camillo & Peppone”.
Since 2004, she has performed with her own company “Maya Hakvoort Music Productions” in the solo programmes “Maya goes Solo”, “Maya‘s Musical Life”, “In My Life” and “This is My Life”, as well as in her current show “Voices of Musical”, featuring guest stars such as Mark Seibert, Marjan Shaki, Lukas Perman, Ramesh Nair, Missy May, Tini Kainrath and Andreas Lichtenberger.
In 2018, she took to the stage with her own musical productions such as “Next to Normal” in Wiener Neustadt and “Blood Brothers” in Brunn am Gebirge. In 2020, as part of the Summer Musical Festival in Brunn am Gebirge, she will bring the musical “Into the Woods” to the stage. In the musical “Heidi”, she enchanted audiences in her role as “Fräulein Rottenmeier”. In 2019, Maya excelled in the roles of “Old Belle” and “Norma Desmond” in the highly acclaimed musicals “Little Me” and “Sunset Boulevard”. Later she took to the stage as the fanatical “Margret White” in the horror musical “Carrie” at the First Stage Theatre in Hamburg before going on to perform in several concerts in the famous Cultural Square Theatre in Shanghai. In addition to her stage work, she is also a popular guest performer in concert programmes staged by in Sound of Music Concerts.
In April 2011, Maya Hakvoort was awarded the Golden Medal of Service of the Republic of Austria. In October 2016 she went on to receive the Golden Rathausmann Award of the City of Vienna and in November of the same year was presented with the Grand Medal of Merit for Services to the Province of Lower Austria.
